A New Perspective for the New Year

The beginning of the year is here, and nationwide, people are preparing their resolutions and vision boards for the new year. For some, losing unwanted body weight, scheduling trips to the gym, and new eating habits are at the top of the list. This year, I’ve decided not to go the traditional route by creating resolutions. Don’t get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with making resolutions. This year, I decided to hang a new framed poster in my office with one of my favorite scriptures, Habakkuk 2:3.

In the past, like many people, I mainly focused on things like my weight, jobs, etc. But this year is different. Life has taught me that each second is precious and should be cherished. With this in mind, I choose to celebrate life daily. I think experiencing the loss of a few family members and friends over the past few years may have also helped me to learn this lesson.

Many people celebrated the New Year on January 1 in past years, but lost their lives shortly after. I don’t say this to scare you but to encourage you to shift your focus from celebrating a new year to celebrating each new day, cherishing memories that you make with your friends and family, and practicing gratitude each day.

Another thing that you should do is invest in yourself. Often, due to our busy lifestyles (family, work/career, and social obligations), we fail to prioritize taking care of ourselves. Unfortunately, this was me before I learned this lesson the hard way. If there is a hobby that you previously enjoyed, but haven’t had time to do it lately, add it to your to-do list, and make it a priority again! There may be a new hobby or project that you’d like to learn/do this year. If so, stop procrastinating and get it done! There is no better time than the present to get started. Sometimes, we put things off for a future date as though we are promised to see it, which we all know is not true!

I could keep this going for hours, but my point is that I hope that you find ways to live, not just exist with the time you have left on this Earth.

Wishing you a Happy New Year! Happy New Day! Happy New Memories! Happy New Moments! We also wish you Good Health, Prosperity, and Peace of Mind!
