Youth Development & Empowerment

“Polished, Poised, and Prepared” for Success

We understand that the journey toward success can be tough and daunting, especially for young minds. That's why we've partnered with a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Hope for Good, to create a youth development and empowerment program called "Polished, Poised, and Prepared for Success."

Polished, Poised, and Prepared for Success, is a youth development program that provides education and support to children and adolescents ages 6 to 18. This program equips youth with essential life skills, helping them become mentally stronger and make informed decisions about their health, bodies, and communication of boundaries, as well as helping them overcome obstacles they may encounter.

The program aims to create a nurturing atmosphere where young individuals can collaborate, exchange ideas, and enhance their self-esteem and self-confidence. As part of this developmental program, students will learn life skills such as confident communication, proper etiquette, posture, physical fitness and development, comprehensive sex education, responsibility, respect, and emotional expression.

Feedback from Parents of Participants

“I registered my kids for this program after looking up the organization and seeing what they stood for. The information my kids gained, and the love they received from the adults who gave the information was the most valuable part of the event. You could truly tell it came from a place of love. My girls love this event, and we definitely can’t wait for more!”

“Educate NOT Incarcerate”

Prison Pipeline Prevention Program

This Prison Pipeline Prevention Program is focused on preventing behavioral issues, violence, and incarceration among children and adolescents who have suffered from grief, loss, and adversity. Students with learning disabilities and/or emotional disturbances, especially students of color, are also negatively impacted by systems that fail to understand them, provide effective intervention, or provide the support and resources they need to succeed. This results in a large percentage of adolescents with learning disabilities and emotional disturbances dropping out of school before graduation and becoming a part of the criminal justice system.

Emotional disturbances include but are not limited to anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, conduct disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and psychotic disorders.

Oftentimes, children experience the loss of a parent or guardian, while they are young and are not supported by programs and professionals to help them properly cope with the loss. Loss is not only experienced by death. Many children lose parents to the criminal justice system through incarceration, and as a result, they develop behavioral issues at home, in school, and within their community. These behavioral issues then lead these adolescents into violence and risk them being incarcerated as well. This program promotes resilience and healthy coping mechanisms to overcome such challenges.

In the words of the late Dr. Frederick Ogunyemi, “We can either teach them [children] now or pay for them later.” This simply means that we can either provide effective educational solutions and mental health resources for these children, or we will pay to maintain them in prison.
