BREAK THE CYCLE. RECLAIM OUR CITY.

A Movement to Heal Trauma, End Violence, and Rebuild Hope Across Shreveport–Bossier

Break the Cycle. Reclaim Our City.

A community-wide movement bringing trauma healing, youth mentorship, and coordinated intervention to families across Shreveport–Bossier.

Break the Cycle is a community-driven, trauma-informed movement created to address rising violence, generational trauma, and family instability across Shreveport–Bossier. Our mission is to reduce violence at its source by helping families heal, equipping young people with mentors they trust, and restoring hope in neighborhoods that have carried the weight of instability for far too long. With coordinated community partners, local leadership, and the support of residents, donors, and volunteers, we are working to rebuild a safer, stronger, more resilient region—one family at a time.

THE PROBLEM: WHY WE MUST ACT NOW

Shreveport–Bossier is at a crossroads.
Families are living with a level of stress, grief, and instability that would overwhelm anyone. Violence is no longer rare — it’s daily. And behind every headline is a story of trauma that began long before the moment of crisis.

The deeper truth: Violence is not the cause.
It’s the symptom — of untreated trauma, unstable environments, and generations of emotional pain passed down without support or understanding.

Without intervention, the cycle continues:

  • Youth make split-second decisions with lifelong consequences.

  • Families collapse under the weight of stress they don’t know how to manage.

  • Neighborhoods lose their sense of safety and hope.

This moment demands action — strategic, compassionate, and community-driven.

OUR SOLUTION:

A 3-PILLAR APPROACH TO TRANSFORMATION

Break the Cycle is built on three pillars proven to reduce violence, strengthen families, and restore hope:

PILLAR 1 — Healing Trauma Through Education and Support

Families cannot break cycles they don’t understand.
We bring trauma-informed care directly to the community in ways that are simple, accessible, and culturally relevant.

Our work includes:

  • Trauma education workshops for families

  • Emotional regulation training

  • Caregiver support frameworks

  • Youth coping-skills development

  • Safe spaces for processing stress and grief

  • Family stabilization strategies

When trauma is named, understood, and healed, everything changes — behaviors, relationships, and entire futures.

PILLAR 3 — Rebuilding Shreveport–Bossier Through Collaboration and Community Strengthening

Violence is too big for any one group to solve alone.
We unite the people who care about this city’s future:

  • Churches

  • Schools

  • Educators

  • Mental health professionals

  • Youth coaches

  • Local businesses

  • Neighborhood leaders

  • Parents and caregivers

Together, we’re creating safer neighborhoods, stronger families, and a region that refuses to be defined by its violence — but by its resilience.

PILLAR 2 — Ending Violence Through Prevention and Intervention

We stop violence before it starts — not by punishing behaviors, but by teaching young people how to navigate emotions, conflict, and pressure.

Our work includes:

  • Conflict-resolution training

  • Credible mentors (including leaders who have lived the street life and survived it)

  • Youth engagement and support networks

  • Intervention teams for families in crisis

  • Emotional regulation and decision-making skills

  • Positive pathways for at-risk youth

Prevention isn’t passive — it’s strategic, relational, and life-saving.

Our Work. Our Why. Our Impact.

What We Do

Break the Cycle provides trauma education, youth mentorship, family support, and neighborhood-based interventions designed to reduce violence and strengthen communities. We focus on the root causes of violence by addressing untreated trauma, emotional instability, and the lack of safe, trusted support systems for youth.

Why It Matters

Shreveport–Bossier continues to face daily violence that impacts families, mental health, education, and community stability. Trauma repeats itself without intervention. Families need support, neighborhoods need tools, and youth need leaders who can guide them toward safer futures.

How We Create Lasting Change

Through trauma-informed care, credible messenger mentorship, coordinated outreach, and citywide collaboration, Break the Cycle is building a sustainable model of prevention and healing that strengthens the entire region.
